Constitution Records (CR) is delighted to present Mostly Baroque in a concert of baroque concerti for diverse instruments and solo voice. Mostly Baroque has been presenting concerts since 1997 in Florida, Connecticut, New York City and outside the US (UK, Bahamas for example). Please visit MostlyBaroque.com for further information about this ensemble.
CR is thrilled to present what we understand to be the American debut of a sacred work for Countertenor and strings, Salve Regina in F, by the 18th century Italian composer, Antonio Sacchini. The featured soloist will be the Miami-based Countertenor, Maestro Edgar Sanfeliz Botta. CR has learned from performer, musicologist and exclusive music publisher of this work, Dr. Alejandro Garri, that this work has not been performed previously in the US and indeed may well not have been performed anywhere in the world in the modern era. The countertenor voice, along with the sopranist, are the highest male voices and were extremely popular in both liturgical as well as opera in the 18th century. CR is excited to bring this voice to life in the modern era.
Another special aspect of this concert is that the instrumental soloists in the concerti are all long-time members of the Mostly Baroque Chamber Orchestra. One of the more unique and beautiful concertos is the Telemann Concerto for Oboe d'amore in A featuring Peggy Hartman as soloist. This instrument, its name literally means the "oboe of love"!, is the slightly larger sibling of the oboe and was a very important instrument in the 18th century in many great works by Bach and Telemann as well as other composers.
The last piece deserving special mention is the wonderful and humorous suite for strings by Telemann, the Don Quichotte Suite, subtitled Burlesque de Quixotte. This work is based on Cervantes' great novel, Don Quixote of La Mancha (1605/15). This seven section work is a concerto grosso for strings that portrays many parts of the novel including Don Quichotte's longing for Dulcinea, his attack on the windmills and the galop of his trusty horse Rocinante with his ever present sidekick, Sancho Pansa struggling to keep on his mule.
